Privacy Policy

How Light of Life Sub-Acute Hospital protects, keeps and shares your personal and medical information under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

1. Security measures

We implement technical and organisational measures to protect information: locked cabinets, password-protected systems, access control, staff confidentiality training and secure disposal of records.

2. Retention

Medical records are retained for at least 6 years after discharge, or until age 21 for minors. CCTV footage is retained for 30 days. Financial records are retained for 5 years, as required by tax laws.

3. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

• Be notified when your information is collected
• Request access to your information
• Request correction or deletion
• Object to processing
• Not be subject to automated decision-making
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator

4. Confidentiality

All staff are bound by confidentiality and professional ethics. Medical information is not disclosed to family without your consent, except in emergencies or as required by law.

5. Website

If you use our website or Wi-Fi, we may collect non-personal information such as your IP address for security.

6. Children

Children's information is processed only with parent or guardian consent and where necessary for healthcare. Extra safeguards are applied.

We may update this Policy from time to time. The latest version is available at reception and on request, and the effective date will be updated.
